Amelia Island is located in Nassau County, Florida, 30 minutes north of Jacksonville. It is the northernmost barrier island on Florida’s Atlantic coast and the southernmost of the Sea Island chain that stretches along the East Coast of the United States from South Carolina to Florida. Amelia Island is 127 miles south of Savannah, Georgia and 197 miles east of Tallahassee.

In addition to beautiful beaches and tranquil nature trails and waterways, Amelia Island is home to world-class golf, distinctive dining and unique shopping. You will find an island filled with an  amazing array of things to do for families, couples and groups, including sports, adventure activities, spa treatments, museums and live performances. There’s something for all ages.

Amelia Island offers a variety of accommodations for every style of getaway. Oceanfront resorts provide recreational activities and onsite restaurants. Several of the island’s historic homes and Victorian mansions have been transformed into charming bed and breakfasts. Well-known hotel brands provide reliable quality in the heart of downtown or steps from the beach. Meanwhile, visitors who appreciate privacy, space and the amenities of home, should look into Amelia Island’s beachfront vacation rentals. They’re also great for digital nomads and work-from-home vacations.

Amelia Island is 35 miles north of downtown Jacksonville, Florida and only 25 miles from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX). To reach Amelia Island from Jacksonville, head north on I-95, then take exit 373 east for 15 miles until you cross the Intracoastal Waterway. Warning: you might feel a sudden sense of ease and relaxation once you cross over the bridge.

When people think of Amelia Island, they usually envision pristine beaches, live oaks dripping with Spanish moss and kayaking the winding salt marshes. The island is also known for its Southern hospitality as well as the small town vibe of historic downtown Fernandina Beach.

Amelia Island is easily accessible by car via Interstate 95 (I-95). Travelers coming from the north or south can take I-95 to exit 373 onto State Road A1A and travel 15 miles crossing the Intracoastal Waterway onto Amelia Island. If you’re coming by air, at only 30 minutes from Amelia Island, Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is the closest airport and links Northeast Florida with cities across North America and around the world, including many non-stop routes from within the United States. Private, corporate and charter aircraft may use the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport located on Amelia Island.
