Tucked away and a little off the beaten path in downtown Fernandina Beach, Wicked Bao has become a cherished spot for both locals and visitors since it opened its doors in 2017. Owner Nathalie Wu brought her passion for Asian street food to life at this vibrant restaurant located at the corner of North 2nd and Calhoun Streets. With its festive lanterns and bright colors, Wicked Bao stands out, especially at night when it’s lit up with twinkling white lights, creating a welcoming and lively atmosphere.
Inside, the buzz of hungry diners fills the air, and it’s not uncommon to see a line forming out the door—a sure sign of a great restaurant! Nathalie is often there to greet her guests, guiding them through the menu displayed on the wall. Among the standout dishes, the Crispy Pork Chop Rice is a crowd favorite, featuring a tender fried pork atop Asian slaw, drizzled with a spicy chili sauce. Another popular choice is the Ahi Tuna Poke over Crispy Jasmine Rice Tots, a light yet filling dish that melts in your mouth with its combination of flavors and textures.
Of course, the stars of the Wicked Bao show are the baos themselves—steamed bread rolls filled with savory meats or vegetables. Nathalie’s baos are nothing short of spectacular and there are quite a few to choose from including Fried Grouper, Fried Shrimp and Crispy Tofu. But, start out with The Trio of Braised Pork Belly, Bulgogi Beef, and Buttermilk Fried Chicken for a yummy introduction. Pair your meal with a selection of drinks, including Asian beers, wine, champagne, or the unique homemade Saki Sangria of the month.
Whether you choose to dine inside or on the outdoor deck, don’t forget to snap a photo by the “love wall” before you leave. Open for dinner starting at 4 pm, Wicked Bao promises a festive dining experience that’s as delicious as it is memorable.
Visit them at 232 N 2nd Street.
