Fishing on and around Amelia Island is a year-round activity, but like the tide comes and goes, so does the season – and the summer fishing season is heating up. Here are three things to keep in mind:
There’s plenty to catch every season, but during the summer months, you can expect to reel in some local favorites. Depending on exactly where and how you fish, inland and offshore you can expect to catch flounder, grouper, dolphin, wahoo, cobia, redfish, sea trout, amberjack and sheepshead. And if you’re looking for some freshwater fun, bass are plentiful in St. Mary’s and Nassau rivers, especially during the month of June.
During the summer months, there’s really no wrong answer. Pier fishing and surf fishing are great for any age and level of expertise. George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier State Park and Fort Clinch State Park are the perfect place for saltwater fishing with both feet on the ground. Inshore charters often come across schools of redfish, flounder and more along the brackish waters, under the bridges, and along oyster beds. For something a little more adventurous, join one of our many qualified fishing guides offshore. Patience and a little luck is what you’ll need to catch the big one!
Fresh fish is always on the menu on Amelia Island. Did you know you can take your catch to some of your favorite restaurants and have them cook it for you? The Salty Pelican Bar & Grill will prepare it just the way you like it, with all the perfect sides.
